Texas Longhorns Branded Most ‘Overvalued Team’ in College Football
The Texas Longhorns are entering a transformative season, coping with significant departures, including quarterback Quinn Ewers and offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., to the NFL. As Texas gears up for the 2025 season, ESPN BET has set the team’s regular-season win total at 10.5. However, skepticism looms over prospects for the Longhorns, with ESPN analyst Joe Fortenbaugh labeling them the most "overvalued team" in college football.
On a recent episode of "Get Up," Fortenbaugh advised fans to bet on the under for Texas’ win total, pointing out the improbability of achieving over ten victories given the team’s 12-game schedule. "All we need are two losses," he asserted, highlighting the challenges ahead as head coach Steve Sarkisian seeks to follow up on consecutive College Football Playoff appearances.
Arch Manning, a highly touted recruit, is projected to take the reins from Ewers after serving as a backup for two seasons. Sarkisian has cultivated a successful environment, leading the Longhorns to their last under ten-win season in 2022, when the team finished 8-5. Texas’ resilience was further demonstrated by a trip to the SEC Championship Game in their inaugural season in the conference, narrowly losing to Georgia in overtime.
Despite skepticism surrounding the 2025 roster, there are positive signs for the Longhorns, including the recent gain of five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo following the cancellation of his visit to Oklahoma. The upcoming season kicks off against Ohio State on August 30, as Texas aims to prove its doubters wrong and reaffirm its status in college football.
