Predicted First Loss for Texas in the 2025 College Football Season

Texas Longhorns Anticipated to Face First Loss of the 2025 Season

In a recent prediction by ESPN’s Joe Fortenbaugh, the Texas Longhorns are expected to suffer their first loss of the 2025 college football season in their opening game against the Ohio State Buckeyes on August 30. Head coach Steve Sarkisian has built a commendable record of 38-17 since taking the helm in 2021, leading the Longhorns to one bowl game and two College Football Playoff appearances. However, skepticism surrounds the team as they prepare for a challenging season ahead.

Fortenbaugh highlighted Texas’ tough schedule, which ranks as the fourth most difficult in the nation. He expressed doubts that the Longhorns will meet the projected 10.5 regular-season wins. “All we need are two losses,” Fortenbaugh noted, citing additional challenges such as road games against Florida and Georgia.

The Texas roster will look markedly different in 2025, following significant departures to the NFL Draft, including key players like quarterback Quinn Ewers and offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. The spotlight will soon shift to Arch Manning, the former No. 1 overall recruit from the 2023 class, who is poised to take over the quarterback role after gaining valuable experience last season.

Despite the swirling uncertainties, some analysts are focusing on rising stars like running back Tre Wisner, who has been identified as a Heisman sleeper candidate. The Longhorns and Buckeyes have faced off four times previously, splitting the series at 2-2. With a chance for revenge, the Longhorns aim to make a strong statement against Ohio State as the new season kicks off.

Stay tuned for what promises to be an exhilarating college football season.
