UTA reveals 130th anniversary commemorative tartan in News Center

The University of Texas at Arlington recently celebrated its 130th anniversary by hosting a Student Tartan Design Competition. The winning tartan design, created by sophomore art history major Rachel Chen, was chosen for its representation of the university’s spirit and legacy. Chen was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for her design, while the runner-up, Kara Johnson, received a $500 scholarship.

President Jennifer Cowley praised the competition for bringing the community together and showcasing the talent, tradition, and school pride of UTA. Chen expressed her gratitude for being chosen as the winner and highlighted how a simple tartan pattern can unite people and foster a strong sense of community.

Chair of the Department of Art and Art History, August Davis, commended the student interest in designing a limited-edition commemorative tartan for UTA’s anniversary celebrations. The winning design will be featured on University merchandise that will be sold in the UTA Bookstore later this year.

For more information on UTA’s 130th anniversary celebration and events, individuals are encouraged to visit the university’s website. The design competition not only highlighted the artistic talent of UTA students but also served as a unique way to commemorate the university’s rich history and traditions.
