Tributes to Anne Burrell: The Last Encounter with NYC’s Green Lady
In the wake of beloved Food Network star Anne Burrell’s sudden death at the age of 55, influencer Elizabeth Eaton Rosenthal, known as the Green Lady of Brooklyn, has shared her poignant memories of their last encounter. Burrell passed away on June 17, reportedly found unconscious in her home, with her cause of death still under investigation.
Just five days before her untimely demise, Burrell posted a heartfelt photo of herself with Rosenthal on Instagram. In her final post, Burrell expressed her joy at finally meeting Rosenthal, stating on June 12, “I may or may not have followed her down the street for a minute. She is just lovely!!!”
Rosenthal fondly recalled their meeting, noting how happy Burrell appeared and how they had briefly spoken about their lives. She described the occasion as "so much fun," and later invited the chef to her garden to pick figs when they ripened.
Following the tragic news of Burrell’s passing, Rosenthal returned to Instagram to memorialize their encounter. “You are such a lovely person just to meet and not knowing you, I just love you,” she wrote, reflecting the deep impact Burrell had on those she met.
While the official cause of death has yet to be confirmed, rumors indicate that an investigation into a possible overdose is ongoing. As Burrell’s loved ones mourn, over 100 friends attended a wake in NYC on June 20.
The Food Network plans to honor her legacy with the upcoming season of “Worst Cooks in America,” set to premiere next month. The cooking community continues to remember the vibrant life and untimely loss of a true culinary star.
