Longhorns Face Challenging Schedule in Upcoming SEC Basketball Season
AUSTIN, Texas — The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has released the opponent and location details for the Texas Longhorns’ 2025-26 basketball season, marking their second year in the conference. After a tough 2024-25 season that saw them finish 13th with a 6-12 conference record, the Longhorns aim for a significant turnaround.
The team managed to secure a play-in spot in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, claiming victories over Vanderbilt and Texas A&M. However, their run ended abruptly after a loss to Xavier, leading to a coaching change. Head coach Rodney Terry has been replaced by Sean Miller, who previously led Xavier to victory over Texas.
For the upcoming season, the Longhorns will play home-and-home series against local rivals Oklahoma and Texas A&M, as well as Georgia. They will also host reigning national champions Florida at the Moody Center, expected to be a highlight of the season.
The Longhorns’ home games will include matchups against Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt, among others. Meanwhile, they face a rigorous away schedule featuring tough competitors like Alabama, Arkansas, and Kentucky, all of whom ranked in the top 20 last season.
Additionally, the Longhorns will contend with a challenging non-conference schedule, opening against Duke in the Dick Vitale Invitational on November 4. They will also compete in the Maui Invitational before facing two-time national champions UConn on December 12.
SEC play kicks off on January 3 and runs until March 7, culminating in the SEC Tournament from March 11-15 in Nashville, followed by the NCAA Tournament starting on March 17, 2026. With a mix of rivalry games and tough competitors, the Longhorns are set for an intense season.
