BTS Members RM and V Discharged from Military Service Amid Fan Celebrations
Chuncheon City, South Korea — K-pop sensations RM and V of BTS have officially completed their mandatory military service, with their discharge celebrated by enthusiastic fans on Tuesday. The duo was greeted by around 200 supporters, including international fans who traveled from as far as Mexico, Turkey, and Brazil to mark the occasion.
Reina Lorena Quintero Sevilla, who flew nearly 18 hours from Mexico City, expressed her excitement, stating, “I swear, it didn’t feel that long because we’re so excited to be here, to watch the boys get released.” The celebration signals a significant moment for BTS and their global fanbase, known as ARMY, as they continue to support the group through various stages of their careers.
RM and V started their military service in December 2023, joining fellow members Jin, J-Hope, and Suga, who had already begun their conscription earlier. Jin’s discharge occurred in June 2024, followed by J-Hope in October. The remaining members, Jimin and JungKook, are set to be released soon, while Suga is serving as a social service agent and will conclude his service later this month.
The BTS members’ commitment to fulfilling their military duties has sparked public interest, especially after revisions to the Military Service Act allowed K-pop idols to postpone enlistment. While there was considerable debate over potential exemptions for the group, it was ultimately decided that all seven members would serve.
As they look ahead, BTS plans a reunion in 2025, promising to continue captivating fans around the world with their music and performances.
