Zebra Escapes in Christiana, TN: Watch the Video!

Ed the zebra, a runaway sensation in Tennessee, has been captured after evading capture for over a week. The zebra made headlines and became a social media star as users followed his antics, which included roaming through neighborhoods and causing chaos on Interstate 24. Authorities reported that Ed went missing shortly after being brought to his new home in Christiana, just one day post-arrival on May 31.

His escapades included running unchecked on highways, prompting law enforcement to temporarily close roads for public safety. The zebra was elusive, disappearing into wooded areas and only resurfacing multiple times, leading to the use of drones for tracking his movements.

The capture operation involved several agencies, including the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. Ed was ultimately tranquilized and airlifted by helicopter, with video footage capturing him being transported while strapped safely in a net. Upon his return to captivity, Ed was taken to a veterinarian for a health check.

Interestingly, owning a zebra is legal in Tennessee, classified as a Class III animal that requires no special permits. This law contributes to the state’s allowance of various unusual pets, including ferrets, alpacas, and even kangaroos. Ed’s story captured the hearts of many, leading to a deluge of memes and widespread media attention during his time on the run. The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office provided updates throughout the ordeal, reflecting the community’s engagement and concern for the spirited zebra.
