Teens Arrested in Shooting Incident in White Settlement, Texas
WHITE SETTLEMENT, Texas – Authorities have arrested 18-year-old Ruben Martinez III in connection with a shooting incident last week. He faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following an event on May 10.
At approximately 11:30 PM, police responded to reports of gunfire on Colton Drive. Initial investigation at the scene revealed no one present; however, a second call from a victim reported that his vehicle had been severely damaged by gunfire and left disabled on the West Freeway. The victim fortunately suffered no injuries, although multiple bullet holes were observed in the car, with the rear window shattered.
According to the victim, the shooting took place on Ozona Avenue. Officers discovered 14 shell casings and one bullet upon investigation. Utilizing security footage, investigators identified Martinez as the suspect. On May 14, he was apprehended on Tacoma Drive, where a search of his residence reportedly led to the recovery of the firearm believed to have been used in the crime, along with other weapons and narcotics.
White Settlement Police Chief Christopher Cook condemned the actions, emphasizing the "reckless disregard for the sanctity of life" displayed in discharging a firearm towards an occupied vehicle. He praised the Criminal Investigations Unit for their swift action in identifying and capturing the suspect, as well as acknowledging the support from the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office in assisting local agencies.
This incident underscores the critical need for community safety and the effective collaboration between law enforcement agencies. The investigation continues as authorities seek to address the impacts of gun violence in the area.
