Press Release: Grand Prairie Police Charge Man with Murder After Fatal Chase Incident
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – In a tragic incident early Saturday morning, Llonis Arevalo, a 26-year-old man, has been charged with murder following a police chase that ended in the death of a stranded motorist.
Authorities report that officers attempted to pull over Arevalo’s Chevrolet Camaro around 1:45 a.m. on East Main Street. Initially appearing to comply, the driver abruptly fled the scene as officers exited their patrol car, sparking a pursuit. The chase continued onto Interstate 30, where Arevalo collided with a disabled vehicle while trying to exit at Hampton Road South.
Upon impact, both Arevalo and an unidentified passenger exited the Camaro. Officers quickly apprehended Arevalo in the median. During the arrest, he disclosed to the authorities that he had ingested fentanyl, necessitating a trip to the hospital for treatment before he was officially taken into custody.
Police confirmed that the driver of the disabled vehicle sustained severe injuries and was subsequently transported to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the victim has yet to be released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner.
Arevalo faces multiple charges, including murder, evading arrest causing death, and resisting arrest. Notably, he is a known gang member and was reportedly out on bond for multiple felony offenses at the time of his arrest.
