Fort Worth Surpasses 1 Million Residents, Solidifying Growth
FORT WORTH, Texas – In a significant milestone, Fort Worth has officially surpassed 1 million residents, achieving a total population of 1,008,106 according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau data. This growth not only secures Fort Worth’s place as the fourth-largest city in Texas, overtaking Austin, but also elevates it to the 11th largest city nationwide, just shy of Jacksonville, Florida.
Fort Worth has experienced a remarkable 9.7 percent population increase since 2020, with a 3.1 percent growth in the past year alone. The city’s comparatively low population density—ranking 24th among the 30 most populous U.S. cities—positions it for continued expansion and development opportunities.
Mayor Mattie Parker expressed enthusiasm about this achievement, stating, “This is an exciting and significant milestone for Fort Worth. We are in a crucial moment of growth and opportunity.” She emphasized the critical need for smart policies and planning to ensure the city continues to thrive.
City Manager Jay Chapa highlighted that consistent fiscal discipline and a focus on quality of life have contributed to this growth. “Surpassing 1 million residents is a reminder that our work matters,” he remarked, underscoring the responsibility to manage this growth effectively.

Christianne Simmons, the city’s chief transformation officer, noted that as Fort Worth evolves, it must confront complex questions about resource allocation.
