North Texas Cities Experience Explosive Growth, New Census Data Reveals
Dallas, Texas – North Texas is witnessing a remarkable population surge, with five of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S. according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau data. Leading the charge is Princeton, a city approximately 45 miles northeast of Dallas, which has been named the fastest-growing city in America. Over the past year, Princeton’s population soared by an astounding 30%, more than doubling since 2020, now totaling an estimated 37,000 residents.
While the influx has generated new job opportunities, it comes with challenges. Residents report increased traffic congestion, water supply issues, and pressure on city services and school districts. Local leaders, including the mayor and city manager, are actively addressing these concerns by supporting new residential developments and implementing long-term planning strategies to ensure sustainability and maintain quality of life.
In addition to Princeton, Collin County boasts four other significant growth hubs: Anna, Celina, and Melissa—all listed among the top 15 fastest-growing cities in the country. Rockwall, in Rockwall County, has also made its mark as the 8th fastest-growing city nationwide.
Adding to the shifting demographics, Fort Worth has overtaken Austin in population, now ranking as the fourth-largest city in Texas with a population exceeding one million. Fort Worth experienced the fifth-highest growth in the U.S. within the past year, while Dallas remains the ninth-largest city in the country, and Fort Worth has climbed to 11th place.
As these cities navigate the challenges accompanying rapid growth, they remain focal points for development and urban planning to sustain their vibrant communities.
