Wildfire Near Fredericksburg: Reverse Fire 45% Contained
HARPER, Texas — Firefighters are aggressively battling a 75-acre wildfire, known as the Reverse Fire, located near the 400 block of E. Grand Oak Drive in Harper, roughly 10 miles west of Fredericksburg. The blaze, which ignited around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, is primarily situated in a rural area densely covered with cedar trees, creating challenging conditions for containment.
As of 9 p.m., fire crews reported that the fire is 45% contained. The flames are advancing eastward, and the presence of spot fires has raised concerns among firefighting teams. Crews from various Central Texas departments, alongside the Texas A&M Forest Service, are collaborating to manage the situation effectively.
To establish control, firefighting efforts include deploying two bulldozers to create containment lines, while aerial support from drones and helicopters is being used to coordinate ground teams. Fredericksburg Fire Chief Lynn Bizzell praised the prompt response and teamwork, stating, “Thanks to the coordination and quick response of our crews, we were able to get containment started on this fire.”
However, the region’s heavy cedar coverage, combined with piles of dead vegetation, poses a significant threat, as they continue to ignite and generate new spot fires. Fire officials are committed to monitoring the situation throughout the night to prevent any potential flare-ups.
