PM Narendra Modi Leads Cabinet Committee on Security Meeting

Press Article: India-Pakistan Ceasefire Developments

New Delhi, [Date] — In a pivotal move amidst rising tensions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security on Wednesday, marking the first such gathering since a ceasefire was established following last month’s deadly Pahalgam terror attack. Senior officials, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, were in attendance, highlighting the government’s focus on national security amidst evolving circumstances.

The meeting coincided with a significant development at the International Border where both nations exchanged border-guarding personnel. India’s Border Security Force (BSF) saw the return of its jawan, Purnam Kumar Shaw, who had been in Pakistani custody for 21 days. This exchange has been described by officials as a step towards de-escalation amid ongoing hostilities.

Compounding the situation, U.S. President Donald Trump recently claimed his administration played a role in mediating a ceasefire between the two countries. However, India has firmly rejected these claims, maintaining that any cessation of hostilities was the result of their own strategic efforts. Trump’s assertions continue to provoke reactions as he described the ceasefire as "historic."

Tensions reignited on May 7-8 with India’s Operation Sindoor, targeting terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, following the tragic loss of 26 lives in the Pahalgam attack. The ensuing period saw heightened military activity until both nations agreed to a ceasefire, effective from 5 PM on Saturday. Despite this agreement, Pakistan reportedly breached the ceasefire within hours.

As the situation unfolds, both nations remain under scrutiny for adherence to the ceasefire and the potential for renewed dialogue to resolve long-standing issues. The world watches closely as diplomatic efforts continue to shape the future of Indo-Pak relations.
