Putin Skipping Turkey Talks Would Signal Final Intentions for Ukraine, Says Zelenskyy’s Key Advisor – Europe Live | Ukraine

Putin’s Absence from Turkey Talks Signals Russia’s Intent, Warns Zelenskyy’s Chief Aide

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, has asserted that if President Vladimir Putin opts out of the upcoming peace talks in Turkey, it would unmistakably indicate Russia’s unwillingness to seek an end to the ongoing conflict. Yermak stated that such a decision would be a definitive signal of Moscow’s intentions not to engage in negotiations, as reported by AFP.

During a press conference, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized the significance of recent high-level talks in Kyiv, asserting the determination to push for a ceasefire. He praised Zelenskyy for his readiness to attend the Turkey summit despite challenging circumstances, reflecting a commitment to find a peaceful resolution. Merz firmly stated that further concessions from Ukraine were “no longer acceptable” and continued military support for Ukraine would be forthcoming from Germany, should it be necessary.

The Chancellor highlighted the necessity for the international community to resist any military aggression that could redraw European borders. He warned of potential tighter sanctions on Russia if negotiations stall, further escalating pressure on Moscow.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin has remained non-committal regarding the planned Turkey talks. Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov indicated preparations were ongoing but refrained from elaborate comments on Zelenskyy’s call for Putin’s attendance.

In parallel diplomatic efforts, leaders from China and Brazil expressed support for direct talks between Ukraine and Russia, signaling a broader international interest in resolving the conflict. As the situation unfolds, the global community closely watches how these developments will influence peace negotiations and regional stability.
