Natasha Richardson’s family commemorated her life on what would have been her 60th birthday, 16 years after her tragic passing. Her sister, Joely Richardson, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute that included nostalgic photos of the sisters and their mother, actress Vanessa Redgrave.
In her post, Joely revealed that she had asked their mother to share her thoughts. Redgrave, 88, reflected on the fond memories of naming Natasha during a trip to Greece, revealing that she suggested the name inspired by Tolstoy’s “War and Peace.” She affectionately recalled, “Our Natasha came swimming out of my womb ready for anything.” The poignant tribute emphasized Redgrave’s enduring grief, stating, “I will never be reconciled to her dying in the snow,” a reference to the accident that claimed Natasha’s life.
Natasha Richardson, best known for her roles in films like “The Parent Trap,” died at the age of 45 after suffering severe head trauma from a skiing accident in Canada. Following the incident, she initially complained of a headache before being taken to various hospitals and ultimately passing away at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.
At the time of her death, Natasha was married to actor Liam Neeson, who reflected on the devastating loss in a recent interview, stating, “It was a horrible thing to happen.” Neeson acknowledged the support he received from Redgrave and Joely, crediting them for helping him raise their two sons, Micheál and Daniel, during the challenging aftermath.
