AMC Theatres Introduces “50% Off Wednesdays” to Boost Moviegoing
July 9, 2023 – AMC Theatres is making cinema more accessible with a new initiative that offers a steep 50% discount on ticket prices every Wednesday for members of its AMC Stubs loyalty program. The "50% Off Wednesdays" promotion will kick off nationwide, applicable to all AMC locations and even new movie releases.
The discount is available to AMC’s 36 million current Stubs members, with free registration open to all. Although premium formats like IMAX and Dolby Cinema will still incur additional charges, customers can take advantage of significant savings on regular ticket prices.
“We’ve gone to great lengths to create the preeminent moviegoing environment,” stated AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron. “Now, we are also pleased to make moviegoing more affordable.”
This move comes as AMC reports an encouraging rebound at the box office following the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and competition from streaming services. With a notable increase in ticket sales this spring, Aron noted, "Realistically, we could not afford to have made this change to our ticket pricing strategy until the box office showed true signs of sustained recovery."
Targeting value-seeking moviegoers, AMC aims to replicate the success of its existing “Discount Tuesdays,” which have proven to be one of the chain’s busiest days. The AMC Stubs program offers additional perks, including reward points and birthday treats, enhancing the overall customer experience.
As the largest movie theater chain in the U.S., AMC’s initiative aims to foster greater participation in moviegoing while navigating a revitalized landscape for the film industry. Movie enthusiasts can now look forward to an exciting mid-week outing without breaking the bank.
