Press Release: Young Cancer Survivor Gets Dream Wrestling Experience Thanks to "George to the Rescue"
New Jersey, October 5, 2023 — Seven-year-old Trey Gogerty made a triumphant entrance into his basement, reminiscent of a wrestler preparing for a big match, just three years after being diagnosed with cancer. His newly renovated basement, reimagined by NBC’s “George to the Rescue,” was unveiled in an emotional reveal that featured a surprise video message from WWE champion Cody Rhodes.
“Trey, you’re an inspiration to your family, neighborhood, and everyone at WWE,” Rhodes said in the video. He invited Trey to attend a live taping of “Monday Night Raw” at Madison Square Garden, a moment that brought the young fan to tears. “It finally felt like him being happy and proud about something,” said Trey’s father, Rob.
Trey, diagnosed with leukemia at age four, faced a harrowing two years of treatments that included surgery and chemotherapy. His health struggles and the stress they brought transformed everyday life for the Gogerty family. After completing his treatment in June 2024, Trey longed for a place to bond with friends and siblings. “George to the Rescue” delivered his dream, transforming the family’s aging basement into a vibrant space filled with activities and a retro beach vibe.
The renovation included areas for karaoke, games, and even a laundry lounge. The original 1970s decor was updated to create a lively environment where Trey and his siblings can thrive. As a final surprise, Trey was gifted a replica WWE championship belt, making his wrestling dreams come true.
Weeks later, at “Raw,” Trey was treated like a superstar, meeting WWE icons like Rhea Ripley and Jey Uso. His mother, Samantha, expressed gratitude, saying, “It was just so nice to see him like that.” With a heart full of joy, Trey said, “Thank you to George,” as he began a new chapter in his life, embodying the spirit of a true fighter.
