Press Release: Suspect Apprehended After Cutting Ankle Monitor, Evading Authorities
TARRANT COUNTY, TX – Tarrant County Sheriff’s Warrant Deputies apprehended 32-year-old Dontel Tanksley on Monday after a dramatic series of events that began when he cut off his ankle monitor and threatened a previous victim.
At approximately 11:35 a.m., deputies were dispatched to locate Tanksley, who had outstanding warrants for Assault Family Violence stemming from two prior convictions. The initial search led deputies to both his last known address and the victim’s home.
The situation escalated around 2:30 p.m. when a deputy spotted Tanksley’s vehicle on Woodland Springs Drive. A brief pursuit ensued as Tanksley fled the scene, resulting in a flat tire. He abandoned the vehicle and entered a nearby neighborhood, evading capture amid rainy weather and poor visibility.
In response, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office called in additional resources, deploying the Fort Worth Police Department’s Air One, two K-9 units, and a drone unit. A perimeter was established, and deputies meticulously searched various backyards and residences.
After several hours of intensive searching, K-9 units successfully tracked Tanksley down in a heavily wooded area, leading to his arrest. In addition to his existing charges for Assault Family Violence, Tanksley now faces additional charges of Evading Arrest and Tampering with an Electronic Monitoring Device.
He is currently held at the Tarrant County Jail without bond. This incident underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address and apprehend individuals who pose a threat to public safety.
