Two DART Officers Injured in Downtown Dallas Suspect Take-Down
DALLAS – A dramatic incident unfolded in downtown Dallas on Friday evening as two DART officers were injured during the apprehension of five teenage suspects connected to a recent armed robbery. Both officers have been treated and released, while two Dallas police officers also sustained injuries during the operation.
The sequence of events began earlier in the week when a Dallas police officer recognized 19-year-old Kendrick Braxton, identified as a suspect in a robbery at a convenience store on April 28. Surveillance footage showed Braxton casually carrying a backpack moments before the robbery, where he allegedly held a victim at gunpoint and stole $400.
Four days later, on Friday evening, law enforcement spotted Braxton and four accomplices near the West End DART platform, suspected of engaging in a drug deal. Upon recognizing the police presence, the group attempted to flee. Braxton was swiftly tackled, revealing a stolen pistol, masks, gloves, and cash in his backpack. One of the suspects, 18-year-old Joseph Session, managed to jump a wall but not before assaulting a DART police sergeant.
Session was quickly apprehended, with officers discovering a BB gun on him. The five suspects—Braxton, Session, and three others aged 17—were ultimately taken into custody.
The injuries sustained by the DART and Dallas police officers were addressed promptly, with one Dallas officer transported to a hospital. Both Braxton and Session remain in custody at the Dallas County jail.
The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in urban areas. Further developments are awaited as investigations continue.
