Amarillo Police Arrest Two Men in Walgreens Pharmacy Robbery
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — In a brazen early morning robbery, two men have been arrested following an incident at a Walgreens pharmacy located at 34th Avenue and Bell Street in Amarillo. Javonn Terrel Lewis, 29, reportedly entered the store just before 5 a.m. Wednesday, presenting a note demanding cash and claiming to possess a firearm. The note read, “This is a robbery and I have a gun,” indicating the urgency of his request.
Lewis threatened the clerk to “not do anything stupid” before making off with eight bottles of prescription pills from a secure safe. Surveillance footage from nearby establishments captured a silver Dodge Challenger, which was identified later as having an Ohio license plate, leaving the scene shortly after the robbery.
A thorough search of license plate reader (LPR) footage revealed that the Dodge Charger had been at a Cefco gas station prior to the robbery, where a white male fitting the description of Lewis was seen. Later that day, police in Webster County, Missouri, stopped the vehicle, apprehending both Lewis and Curtis Anthony Nelson, 27, who was driving.
Authorities recovered two bags containing prescription medications, along with items matching the description of those worn by Lewis during the robbery. While Nelson denied being in Texas at the time of the incident, Lewis claimed they were merely sightseeing. Both suspects, originally from Indiana, remain in custody as the investigation continues.
This robbery showcases the ongoing challenges facing law enforcement in tracking down suspects across state lines, particularly in cases involving narcotics.
