Corey Seager Activated as Rangers Seek Turnaround Against Mariners
ARLINGTON, TX — The Texas Rangers welcomed back five-time All-Star shortstop Corey Seager on Saturday after a brief stint on the injured list due to a right hamstring strain. Seager’s return comes at a crucial time, as the Rangers struggled significantly, losing eight of their last 10 games in his absence.
Prior to his injury, Seager was performing exceptionally well, boasting a .286 batting average with four home runs and six RBIs. He had been particularly hot at the plate, hitting .370 with three home runs over a 12-game stretch. However, his momentum came to a halt on April 22 when he strained his hamstring while running to first base during a game against the Athletics. Remarkably, he returned to play after the minimum required time on the injured list.
In a corresponding move, the Rangers optioned infielder Jonathan Ornelas to Triple-A Round Rock to make room for Seager. During Seager’s absence, the team managed to score 29 runs, with 15 of those coming in a single game against Oakland. Unfortunately, the Rangers struggled in other matchups, culminating in a disappointing 13-1 loss against the AL West-leading Mariners in their series opener.
Currently, the Texas Rangers sit at 16-17, marking their first time below .500 since the season opener. They find themselves ranked last in the American League with just 104 runs scored. As Seager joins the lineup for Saturday night’s game against Seattle, the hope is that his presence can reinvigorate the team and help them turn their fortunes around.
