Tragedy Strikes Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Day Festival
Vancouver, Canada (April 28, 2025) — In a devastating incident at the Lapu Lapu Day festival on April 27, local resident Kai-Ji Adam Lo, aged 30, has been charged with eight counts of second-degree murder after allegedly driving his vehicle into a crowd, resulting in the deaths of at least 11 individuals and injuries to more than 20 others.
The attack, which occurred around 8 p.m. as the block party was concluding, has been described by Vancouver Police Chief Steve Rai as “the darkest day in our city’s history.” Witnesses recounted harrowing scenes as Lo, reportedly operating a black SUV, barreled down a street where festival-goers had gathered. One attendee likened the chaos to a bowling ball striking pins, with people flung into the air upon impact.
Lo, who has a known history of mental health issues and was previously in contact with law enforcement and mental health professionals, was arrested at the scene. Authorities have stated that they do not believe the attack was terror-related. The youngest victim of this tragedy was merely five years old, while those who lost their lives ranged in age from five to 65.
In light of the incident, a candlelight vigil has been held, honoring the victims and highlighting the community’s grief. First responders were quickly on the scene, addressing the chaos that ensued after the incident.
As investigations continue, Vancouver police have indicated that additional charges may follow as the assessment process unfolds. Lo remains in custody following his court appearance. The tragedy has left a profound impact on the local community, with calls for increased support for mental health initiatives.
