DeSOTO ISD Proposes $199.8 Million Bond for School Renovations and Safety Upgrades
DeSOTO, Texas – The DeSoto Independent School District (DISD) has introduced a comprehensive bond proposal totaling $199,855,000 aimed at renovating or replacing aging educational and athletic facilities across the district. The bond address crucial updates, including the installation of surveillance systems, secure entryways, and emergency response equipment, ensuring compliance with ADA standards.
Early voting is currently underway and will continue until April 29, with Election Day scheduled for May 3. The district highlights that many of its schools are significantly outdated, with the oldest campus being 54 years old and the average facility age at 38 years. The last bond initiative was implemented two decades ago.
The bond is divided into three propositions:

Proposition A: Allocating $152,655,000, this largest segment includes replacing Frank Moates Elementary School and renovations for several other schools such as Cockrell Hill Elementary and McCowan Middle School. The proposition’s tax rate impact is projected at $0.1187.

Proposition B: With a budget of $38,635,000, this proposition focuses on the replacement of the Field House to create a new Student Athlete Success Center and enhancements to district fields. It carries a tax rate impact of $0.0300.
- Proposition C: This smaller segment proposes $8,565,000 for renovations of the high school stadium with a tax impact of under 1 cent.
If approved, the overall tax impact for homeowners in DeSoto ISD would be approximately $0.1554 per $100 of property value, translating to roughly $6.48 monthly for a $150,000 home and $45.33 for a $450,000 home. The district has noted a decrease in the tax rate since 2021, maintaining the third-lowest rate in the region.
