Bishop T.D. Jakes Announces Leadership Transition at The Potter’s House
DALLAS – At a recent service, Bishop T.D. Jakes unveiled plans to appoint Pastors Touré Roberts and Sarah Jakes Roberts as the new senior pastors of The Potter’s House. This major transition, set to take place in late 2025, will see Jakes shifting from daily pastoral duties while maintaining his role as Chairman of the Board and spiritual overseer of the church.
Founded in 1996 by Jakes, The Potter’s House is a global humanitarian organization and a Dallas-based megachurch with a congregation of 30,000. Over nearly three decades, Jakes has led impactful ministries, advising U.S. Presidents and advocating for underserved communities, while reaching tens of thousands through services both in-person and online.
Reflecting on his journey, Jakes stated, “As I enter my 50th year in the public spotlight, I recognize the urgent need to address the challenges of our time, particularly the threat of a disappearing middle class and social unrest.” He emphasized that elevating the Roberts as leaders will honor the church’s rich history while preparing for a future that requires innovative ministry. “This moment isn’t an ending; it’s an expansion,” he asserted.
Pastor Touré Roberts echoed this vision, expressing their commitment to leading with faithfulness and forward-thinking. Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts affirmed their mission as a mandate to lead with compassion and clarity.
This announcement follows a health emergency Jakes experienced in November 2024, prompting him to consider the future leadership of The Potter’s House. As he prepares for this shift, Jakes is also set to launch a new podcast, "My Next Chapter," in collaboration with iHeartMedia.
This transition marks a new era for The Potter’s House, promising continued growth and dynamic leadership as Jakes multiplies his impact on the community and beyond.
