Packers Select Defensive Lineman Barryn Sorrell on Day 3 of NFL Draft

GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Packers made a strategic move on Day 3 of the NFL Draft, selecting defensive lineman Barryn Sorrell from the University of Texas in the fourth round, with the 124th overall pick.

Sorrell, standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 256 pounds, has showcased impressive performance over his three-year tenure as a starter at defensive end for the Longhorns. Throughout 43 games, he amassed a notable 15½ sacks and 29 quarterback hits, alongside 125 tackles, with 24½ of those coming for loss.

Recognized for his contributions on the field, Sorrell earned honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference honors in both 2022 and 2023. He demonstrated his athletic prowess at the scouting combine, recording a 4.68-second 40-yard dash, a 34-inch vertical jump, and completing 28 bench press reps at 225 pounds.

Sorrell’s addition to the Packers marked a continuation of their Texas connection in this year’s draft, as he joins former college teammate and first-round receiver Matthew Golden in Green Bay. This selection reflects the Packers’ commitment to strengthening their defensive lineup as they prepare for the upcoming season.

With Sorrell’s proven track record at the collegiate level, expectations are high for his impact on the Packers’ defense as they aim to enhance their competitiveness in the league.
