Press Release
FORT WORTH, Texas – A significant development in a serious criminal case emerged as 19-year-old Hayden Bates-Vellmure pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in connection to a drive-by shooting that left six individuals injured in Fort Worth last year. Bates-Vellmure has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for organizing the shooting, which occurred on May 1, 2024, at the Miramar Apartments on Las Vegas Trail.
On that fateful evening, Bates-Vellmure coordinated a group of five individuals, including Allan Gilbert, who fired multiple rounds from a Red Kia, targeting the apartment complex. Importantly, while Bates-Vellmure did not discharge a weapon himself, his role in planning the attack was crucial. The victims, aged between 3 and 19 years, were outside the apartments and were not the intended targets of the shooting. Of the six injured, five required hospitalization, with one victim listed in critical condition.
Fort Worth police responded promptly to the shooting incident around 7:30 p.m., leading to a swift investigation. Authorities were able to arrest five suspects within weeks of the shooting, hailing from various Texas cities, including Fort Worth, Bedford, DeSoto, and Dallas. To date, three of the suspects have been convicted: Bates-Vellmure received a 30-year sentence, while both Gilbert and another accomplice, Patrick Biscoe, each received 40-year sentences. Jamal Piper remains scheduled for a court status conference, while Jordan Jackson had a recent hearing.
The police and Tarrant County District Attorney have emphasized their commitment to pursuing justice in this case. The ongoing legal proceedings illustrate the community’s efforts to ensure public safety in the aftermath of this tragic event.
