Carlo Acutis: A Millennial Saint and How He Achieved Sainthood | World News

The canonisation of London-born teenager Carlo Acutis, set to be the first millennial saint, has been postponed due to the death of Pope Francis. Carlo dedicated his life to Catholicism and passed all posthumous trials necessary for sainthood. Becoming a saint requires four stages, starting as a Servant of God, then being declared Venerable and Blessed, followed by Sainthood. Carlo was declared Venerable in 2018 and Beatified in 2020 after a miracle healing a boy named Mattheus Vianna. His second miracle involved a Costa Rican girl who recovered from a head trauma after prayers at Carlo’s tomb. Pope Francis attributed both miracles to Carlo. The record number of sainthoods were declared by the late Pope John Paul II, followed by Pope Francis.

Carlo mixed his faith with technology, known as “God’s influencer”, by using his computer skills to spread the Catholic faith. He recognized Eucharistic miracles, and spread his knowledge through a website that went viral. Carlo’s canonisation was set for April 27 in Vatican City but was postponed due to Pope Francis’ death. The new date is yet to be announced. The death of Pope Francis led to the suspension. Pope Francis had granted sainthood to over 800 15th-century martyrs and to high-profile individuals like Mother Teresa. Carlo’s impact and devotion to the Catholic faith has been widely recognized, leading to his path to sainthood.
