Former Lewisville ISD teacher John Leslie Collett has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a ten-year-old student at Camey Elementary School in The Colony. Collett pleaded guilty to charges including aggravated sexual assault of a child and an improper relationship between an educator and a student.
The victim came forward in April 2023, revealing that Collett had sexually assaulted her during after-school club meetings. She reported that he would give her a kiss goodbye and leave her alone in the classroom, where the assaults occurred. The girl described instances where she sat on Collett’s lap, received candy, and eventually fell asleep before being touched inappropriately.
Investigators discovered discrepancies in Collett’s story, as the after-school club did not meet on the days the assaults allegedly took place, and the victim’s name was not on the list of participants. As a result, Collett was sentenced to two decades in state prison and will be required to register as a sex offender.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding children from abuse in educational settings. The Colony Police Department and FOX 4 have covered the developments in this disturbing case, emphasizing the need for vigilance and accountability in protecting young students from harm.
