Five Finalists Named by Dallas Police Department for Chief of Police Position

The Dallas Police Department is in the final stages of its search for a new chief of police, with five candidates being named as finalists. These candidates include law enforcement executives from various agencies across the country, such as the FBI and DEA, as well as internal candidates from within the Dallas Police Department.

City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert is expected to make a final decision on the new chief by the second week of April. The finalists will participate in a series of events, including meet-and-greets with city officials, feedback panels, and public events to allow the community to get to know them.

Former Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia retired in September 2024, and Interim Chief Michael Igo has been leading the department since then. Kimberly Bizor Tolbert, who became Dallas city manager in January 2025, is overseeing the selection process for the new chief.

The search has attracted an impressive group of candidates with diverse law enforcement backgrounds, and the city is eager to find a leader who will continue to make Dallas one of the safest large cities in the U.S. Stay tuned for updates on this important decision for the Dallas Police Department.
