A new National Medal of Honor Museum is set to open in Arlington, Texas, honoring the extraordinary valor of the less than 4,000 Americans who have received this prestigious military decoration. The 100,000-square-foot facility features interactive exhibits showcasing the stories of the 3,528 Medal of Honor recipients, with their names etched on a Ring of Valor that encircles visitors upon entry. The museum, strategically located in the middle of the country for accessibility, is expected to draw millions of visitors annually. Special guests and some recipients themselves celebrated the museum’s opening with a military band, fireworks, and a drone show. The exhibits are filled with artifacts, including various versions of the Medals of Honor, with recipients entrusting the museum with their actual medals. Five exterior pillars representing each branch of the armed forces and a shining light representing the U.S. Space Force at night add to the museum’s unique design. The project, in the works for three years, aims to honor the sacrifices of ordinary Americans who displayed extraordinary bravery in serving their country. The museum officially opens to the public on Tuesday, with reservations available online.
