Founder of Gateway Church, Robert Morris, surrenders to charges of lewd acts with a child

Gateway Church founder Robert Morris surrendered to authorities in Osage County, Oklahoma, after being indicted for multiple counts of indecent acts with a child. The charges stem from alleged incidents that began in 1982 when Morris, then a traveling preacher, was accused of molesting a 12-year-old girl, identified only as C.C. Morris was released on $50,000 bond and ordered to surrender his passport.

The victim, later identified as Cindy Clemishire, went public with her story last June, prompting Morris to resign from Gateway Church. The church’s board of elders claimed they were unaware of the allegations, leading to changes in leadership. Clemishire detailed instances of abuse that occurred in both 1982 and subsequent years, including inappropriate touching and removing clothing.

The indictment outlines multiple instances of abuse over a period of several years, with the most severe incidents occurring when the victim was 13 or 14 years old. Morris has admitted to inappropriate behavior in his 20s but has not directly addressed the specific allegations made by Clemishire.

The charges against Morris have sparked controversy and raised questions about accountability within religious organizations. The case remains ongoing, with additional legal action expected in the coming months. Osage County Sheriff’s Office and local authorities continue to investigate the allegations.
