Ukraine’s General Staff has confirmed that it has withdrawn from the town of Sudzha, marking another gain for Russia in its offensive to push Ukrainian forces out of their territory. The recapture of Sudzha, the largest town Ukraine had occupied in Russia’s Kursk region, followed intense fighting that has left the town almost completely destroyed. In response, the Kursk region has begun planning reconstruction efforts to restore essential infrastructure and allow economic activities to resume.
Russian troops have made significant progress in recapturing areas seized by Ukraine in the Kursk region after a surprise cross-border attack last year. The Russian Defence Ministry has already started demining operations in reclaimed border areas to ensure the safe return of the population. While these efforts are underway, Ukraine’s northern city of Chernihiv has been targeted by multiple Russian drone attacks, causing damage to residential buildings and a partial power outage in a nearby town.
The head of the Chernihiv City Military Administration, Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, has reported the incidents and stated that urgent measures are needed to address the impact of the attacks. As the conflict continues to escalate, the international community remains concerned about the ongoing violence and its devastating effects on the civilian population. The situation in Ukraine remains volatile, with both sides engaged in a protracted conflict that shows no signs of abating.
