The upcoming McKinney City Charter Amendment Election on November 5th will give voters the opportunity to consider four different propositions that could impact the city’s governance and operations.
The first proposition, Proposition A, involves extending the term limits for members of the McKinney City Council. If passed, this proposition would allow council members to serve three consecutive four-year terms starting in 2025.
Proposition B focuses on increasing the compensation for council members, with council members being paid $750 per month starting in 2025 and the mayor receiving $1,000 per month. The compensation would be adjusted annually based on the CPI for DFW.
Proposition C aims to make various non-substantive edits to the McKinney City Charter, including correcting errors in spelling, grammar, and sentence structure, as well as conforming notice and publication requirements to state law.
Lastly, Proposition D seeks to remove outdated provisions, practices, and policies from the McKinney City Charter that are no longer utilized by the city.
Voters will have the opportunity to vote “for” or “against” each proposition on the ballot. The Special Charter Amendment Election is an important opportunity for McKinney residents to have a say in the governance of their city. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the propositions and cast your vote on Election Day.
