Irving police arrested a 25-year-old man, Mohamid Ali, for allegedly scamming senior citizens nationwide. Ali is currently in the Dallas County jail, facing charges of exploitation of the elderly and theft of property. The suspect also has an ICE hold, suspected of being in the country illegally. The arrest came after a victim from out of state reported being scammed out of $15,000. The victim was directed to wrap the money in foil, place it between the pages of a book, and mail it to North Texas, where Ali was caught on surveillance video picking it up. Irving police credit the community for the tip that led to Ali’s capture. The suspect was also facing possible charges related to a second victim. This arrest sheds light on the importance of community involvement in combating scams targeting vulnerable populations. Senior citizens, in particular, are at risk of falling victim to financial schemes, making it crucial for law enforcement and residents to work together to identify and apprehend scammers. Authorities urge anyone who suspects they or a loved one may have been a victim of a scam to come forward and report it, as timely information can help prevent further exploitation and bring perpetrators to justice.
