46 Fort Worth ISD Seniors Receive $23,000 Scholarships to Attend Texas Wesleyan University

Texas Wesleyan University has awarded 46 seniors from the Fort Worth ISD’s Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences with $23,000 scholarships each, totaling over a million dollars in scholarship awards. The university aimed to dispel the notion that the cost of a private university education is out of reach by considering each student’s GPA and merits. The scholarships are renewable for four years, providing financial assistance for the students pursuing higher education in fields like computer science.

Among the recipients, seniors Cindy Lopez and Isaac Mendoza expressed gratitude for the scholarships, stating that it will significantly ease their financial burdens and make attending college a reality. The initiative by Texas Wesleyan University is part of an effort to attract students from Fort Worth ISD and start a conversation about the affordability of private education.

One of the scholarship recipients, Isaiah Finley, comes from a unique background as the oldest sibling of toddler twin sisters who were born conjoined and underwent a successful surgery to separate them. His family is proud of his accomplishment and sees him as a role model for his younger siblings.

In addition to the scholarships, Texas Wesleyan University emphasizes that students may qualify for more financial assistance based on their circumstances and can compete for additional scholarship awards offered by the university. The scholarships awarded to these Fort Worth ISD seniors demonstrate the university’s commitment to making higher education accessible and affordable for students with academic potential and financial need.
