Interim Chief Michael Igo of the Dallas Police Department recently promoted over 40 officers to various ranks in the force. In a chat with FOX 4’s Shaun Rabb, Igo expressed his excitement and honor to be serving in his new role. Having been with the department for 33 years, rising to the rank of Executive Assistant Chief before being appointed as interim Chief, Igo is focused on continuing the work started by his predecessor, Eddie Garcia, in reducing violent crime and building positive relationships with community leaders. He also emphasized the importance of boosting morale within the department’s 4,100 staff members.
As Dallas residents prepare to vote on various amendments to the city charter, including changes related to police pay and hiring, Igo remains focused on recruiting and retention efforts to strengthen the department. Although he did not openly share his thoughts on the upcoming amendments, he assured that the recruiting team is working diligently to attract new talent to the force.
With the challenge of leading the department until a new chief is named, Igo is dedicated to carrying forward Garcia’s framework and directing the department in the right direction. As the City Manager position is also in transition, with Kimberly Tolbert currently serving as interim, Igo remains committed to ensuring public safety and maintaining a strong relationship with the community during his tenure.
