The Dallas Police Association has taken a stance against Amendment U, one of the controversial Dallas HERO amendments on the ballot in Dallas. The amendment would require the city to hire hundreds of police officers, but the president of the Dallas Police Association argues that it would stress city services and impede their ability to negotiate salaries and benefits for current officers. The president urged residents to vote against Amendments S, T, and U, saying that the budgeting for hiring additional officers would not make the city safer and would strain the city’s finances. Former Dallas city councilwoman Jennifer Staubach Gates also opposes the proposition, citing potential negative consequences for the police and fire departments. On the other side, Dallas HERO, the organization behind the amendments, argues that the goal is to bring the Dallas police force up to the level demanded by a growing population for improved public safety. The organization gathered 170,000 signatures from Dallas residents to put the amendments on the ballot and insists that the amendments are aimed at making Dallas a safer place. Early voting is currently underway, with Election Day scheduled for November 5th.审核去掉
