A fire broke out at the abandoned Maya Angelou High School in South Dallas early Sunday morning, prompting a response from Dallas Fire-Rescue. The fire was first reported around 4:30 a.m. when flames were seen coming through the roof of the building. Firefighters initially attempted to contain the fire from inside the building, but as it grew, they shifted to a defensive strategy. Approximately 60-70 firefighters were on the scene to prevent the flames from spreading, with no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, although there was a small fire at the same location on Sept. 26. Dallas Fire-Rescue is investigating the incident.
