Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs seeks appeal to be released from NYC jail ahead of sex trafficking trial

Sean “Diddy” Combs is appealing a judge’s decision to deny him bail as he awaits his sex trafficking trial, arguing that he should be released from jail as the prosecutors’ insistence on keeping him behind bars is based on speculation. The hip hop mogul’s lawyers filed a brief with the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, claiming that the government’s arguments about the risk of obstruction and flight were unfounded.

Combs has been held in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center since his arrest last month on federal charges. His defense attorney, Alexandra Shapiro, argued that Combs had demonstrated his intention to face and contest the charges by surrendering voluntarily and offering a bail package that would prevent any risk of flight or danger.

Despite Combs’ efforts to secure bail with restrictive conditions, a judge declined to release him, citing concerns that he could intimidate witnesses or flee before his trial. Combs has pleaded not guilty to charges of racketeering and sex trafficking, vehemently denying any wrongdoing.

The allegations against Combs involve the creation of disturbing orgies called “Freak Offs” in which women were drugged and forced into sex with male prostitutes. The global celebrity’s legal team is making a strong case for his release on bail, arguing that he poses no danger to the community or witnesses. Meanwhile, the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office continues to push for Combs to remain in jail pending trial.
