North Dakota teenager caught on video crashing out-of-control car at 113 mph

Samuel Dutcher, an 18-year-old from North Dakota, was driving into Minnesota when his car began accelerating uncontrollably. Minnesota State Patrol officers worked quickly to find a way to stop the car without anyone getting hurt. Trooper Zach Gruver managed to get in front of Dutcher’s vehicle and parked his squad car in its path, with Deputy Zach Johnson ultimately ordering Dutcher to crash into the patrol car in a last-ditch effort to save his life. The plan was successful, and Dutcher walked away without any injuries.

Dutcher, convinced he was going to die during the ordeal, tried everything to stop the vehicle, including using the emergency brake and switching to neutral. His mother, Catherine, feared the worst as she received a call from her son, but was relieved to learn he was safe. The car involved was reported to be a 2022 Honda Pilot, although police did not confirm the make and model.

Following the harrowing experience, Dutcher was able to return to his life as an auto mechanics student at Minnesota State Community and Technical College. The incident received media attention for the dramatic nature of the events that unfolded, with state patrol highlighting how the sheriff’s deputy’s unconventional order ultimately saved Dutcher’s life.
