Natalie Buss, a 37-year-old mother from Church Village, Wales, died after choking during a marshmallow-eating contest at a rugby fundraiser on October 7, 2023. Buss collapsed on stage after consuming dozens of marshmallows in 60 seconds, despite paramedics performing CPR, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Following her death, the Beddau RFC rugby club expressed their devastation at losing a wonderful wife, mother, and daughter.
The contest was hosted by a 34-year-old DJ known as “Roly Poly,” who has since stopped hosting the game after the incident. Authorities are investigating the DJ, considering Buss’ death suspicious and potentially having wider ramifications for the public. The incident has been reported to the Health and Safety Executive for further investigation.
The assistant coroner, Gavin Knox, mentioned that a full inquest could take at least six more months to begin due to a backlog in jury inquests. He assured Buss’ family that he would provide a date for the inquest as soon as possible.
