A drone attack conducted by Ukraine on a Russian armoury in the Tver region has resulted in a large fireball and forced a partial evacuation in western Russia. The attack targeted a large arsenal near the town of Toropets, destroying a warehouse containing missiles and artillery ammunition. The Russian Defence Ministry reported that air defence units had intercepted and destroyed 54 Ukrainian-launched drones targeting several regions. Footage from Tver showed massive blasts and fires around Toropets, prompting some residents to be evacuated. The regional governor issued a partial evacuation order as emergency responders worked to contain the fire caused by falling debris. The Toropets arsenal, equipped with various facilities and capable of storing up to 240 tonnes of explosives, was built in 2015. Ukraine has increased its drone production and is using them to target military and energy infrastructure in Russia, in an effort to disrupt Moscow’s war machine and show that it is not immune to attacks. In response, Russia has conducted air strikes on Ukraine, targeting energy facilities in Sumy and causing casualties in Kropyvnytskyi. The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has escalated with these recent developments, as both sides continue to use aerial attacks to target key locations.
