Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, is currently making its way through North Texas as part of the Big Boy Heartland of America Tour. The train will be in Dallas on Wednesday, Sept. 18 for a private Union Pacific event before heading to Hearne. The locomotive will also be stopping in Fort Worth from October 10 to October 13 at the Fort Worth T&P Station on W. Lancaster Avenue, with free admission for the public to see it. The tour, which spans 10 states, is a rare opportunity to see one of only eight surviving Big Boys, with No. 4014 being the only one in operation.
This historic tour allows train enthusiasts to track the engine’s current location on Union Pacific’s website and witness the iconic locomotive in action. Following its stops in Texas, the Big Boy will travel through Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Colorado before heading back to Cheyenne, Wyoming. The tour showcases a piece of history and provides a unique opportunity for the public to experience the power and majesty of steam locomotives. Don’t miss your chance to catch a glimpse of this impressive piece of engineering on its journey through North Texas and beyond.
