A 16-year-old has been charged in connection to the shooting death of 18-year-old Royse City High School student, Alexander Villegas. Initial reports from police indicated Villegas accidentally shot himself, but further investigation revealed inconsistencies in witness statements. After re-interviewing witnesses, Royse City PD determined that the 16-year-old friend of Villegas was negligently handling the gun when it discharged, causing the fatal injury. Although the shooting is believed to be accidental, the 16-year-old has been charged with criminally negligent homicide. The name of the charged individual has not been released due to their age. The Royse City Police Department provided information on the case.
