Dallas Running Club to Pay Tribute to Police Officer who Lost their Lives

The Dallas running club, Run It Up Dallas, is honoring fallen police officer Darron Burks with a memorial run on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Fair Oaks Park. Burks was a member of the club and was tragically shot and killed while on duty. The community has shown an outpouring of support for Burks, who was also a teacher before becoming a police officer. Run It Up founder, Theo Murdaugh, described Burks as a brother who was dedicated to impacting the community. Despite being in different fraternities, their shared love for running brought them together at the Katy Trail. Multiple law enforcement officers and staff are expected to attend the memorial run, wearing purple in honor of Burks’ fraternity. Members of Run It Up, like Alexus Williams, express their personal connection to Burks and how his presence will be deeply missed. The tragic loss of Burks has brought people together to appreciate each other and the time they have. The event is not only a memorial for Officer Burks but also a reminder of the importance of cherishing loved ones every day. Information for this article was provided by the Dallas Police and members of the Dallas chapter of Run It Up.
