Residents assess destruction following widespread flooding in eastern Romania

A string of towns along Romania’s eastern coast has been hit hard by extensive flooding caused by torrential rain, with Agigea, Tuzla, Costinesti, Eforie, Mangalia, and Vama Veche being the most affected areas. Hundreds of homes have been flooded, and many streets are submerged, resulting in significant property damage. Tourists in Venus woke up to find their cars full of water, while Vama Veche is currently without electricity and undergoing a cleanup operation to repair the beach.

Local authorities have reported no casualties despite the widespread property damage, with over 800 calls received by firefighters from people in need of help. Meteorologists attribute the extreme rainfall to a stationary cyclone storm system over the Black Sea, which they say is a rare occurrence happening only once or twice a year. A code orange rain warning remains in place until at least Sunday, with officials warning of the highest level of flooding in the south of Constanta county.

The cyclone is expected to move south to Greece and Turkey in the coming days, as crews work on the ground to assist those affected by the flooding. The community is coming together to recover from the devastation caused by the biblical flood, with cleanup efforts underway to repair and rebuild the affected areas along the Romanian coast.
