Day 919 of the Russia-Ukraine War: Key Events Timeline | Latest Updates on Russia-Ukraine War

The war in Ukraine entered its 919th day on Sunday, September 1, 2024, with ongoing fighting and significant developments. In Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, a Russian guided bomb attack killed two people and injured 10, including children. The city has been facing multiple strikes since the Russian invasion began in 2022. Meanwhile, Russia reported repelling drone attacks in various parts of the country, including a thwarted “massive” attack on western Russia and the capital.

Moscow’s oil refinery also faced a fire of the highest complexity level, and several drones were destroyed in different regions, including near the Konakovo Power Station and the Moscow Oil Refinery. Independent reports suggest that more than 66,000 Russian military personnel have died during the war, with over 4,600 deaths in the last four weeks alone.

In terms of politics and diplomacy, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg stated that Ukraine was justified in launching a surprise offensive into Russia’s Kursk border region as an act of self-defense. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has increased pressure on the United States to allow strikes on military targets deep inside Russian territory after deadly attacks like the one in Kharkiv. Zelenskyy emphasized the need to target Russian military airfields, bases, and logistics to prevent further casualties.

The war in Ukraine continues with ongoing violence and diplomatic efforts as both sides seek to gain an advantage in the conflict.
