NASA announced that the resupply mission to the International Space Station has been postponed due to weather conditions, with a new launch targeted for Sunday, Aug. 4. The mission will carry scientific equipment on a Northrop Grumman Cygnus spacecraft launched by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The launch will be live-streamed by NASA, beginning at 11:10 a.m. EDT on various platforms including NASA Television, the NASA app, YouTube, and the agency’s website.
The Cygnus spacecraft, carrying nearly 8,200 pounds of supplies, hardware, and scientific materials, is scheduled to arrive at the space station on Monday and will remain there for nearly six months. The payload includes equipment for water recovery technology, blood and immune stem cell production, and studies on the effects of spaceflight on liver tissue and microorganism DNA. Additionally, a new STEM demonstration will be conducted using a balloon, penny, and hexnut to showcase centripetal force for students.
After its mission is complete, the Cygnus spacecraft will burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere, but it also has the capability to reboost the space station’s orbit if needed. NASA astronauts on board will capture and install Cygnus using the station’s robotic arm. The live coverage will also include updates on Florida Today and other news outlets.
