Marchand Shines with Fourth Olympic Swimming Gold, McKeown Achieves Double Victory at Paris Olympics 2024

French swimmer Leon Marchand made history at the Paris Olympics by winning his fourth gold medal in the men’s 200-meter individual medley. Marchand broke an Olympic record with a time of 1 minute, 54.06 seconds, just narrowly missing the world record set by Ryan Lochte. With this win, Marchand became the first French athlete to win four individual gold medals in a single Summer Games. He is only the third male swimmer, alongside Michael Phelps and Mark Spitz, to achieve this feat.

Marchand’s incredible performance was celebrated by a roaring crowd at La Defense Arena, with French President Emmanuel Macron cheering him on. The 22-year-old athlete from Toulouse lived up to his nickname, the French Michael Phelps, and solidified his status as a global superstar. Marchand’s dominance in the pool was complemented by Australian swimmer Kaylee McKeown, who won her second consecutive gold in the women’s 200-meter backstroke.

In another thrilling race, Cameron McEvoy of Australia claimed his first Olympic gold in the men’s 50-meter freestyle, narrowly edging out British swimmer Ben Proud. McEvoy’s victory marked a significant achievement in his career, as he had previously won bronze medals in relays in Rio and Tokyo. The Paris Olympics showcased exceptional performances from Marchand, McKeown, and McEvoy, solidifying their places in Olympic swimming history.
