Former Argyle Volunteer Fire District Chief Sentenced to Over 4 Years in Prison for Embezzling Funds
Troy “Mac” Hohenberger, the former chief of the Argyle Volunteer Fire District, has been handed a sentence of more than four years in federal prison for embezzling funds. The sentence was handed down by U.S. Judge Robert Schroeder following Hohenberger’s guilty plea to charges related to the misuse and theft of funds from the fire district, as well as making a false statement to the Department of Labor.
Investigations into Hohenberger’s actions revealed that he had been using the embezzled funds to pay off his credit card debt and cover other personal expenses. As a result, he was ordered to pay $509,807.50 in restitution to Denton County Emergency Services District No. 1, in addition to serving his prison sentence. In addition to the 50-month prison term, Hohenberger will also face three years of supervised release.
The sentencing of Hohenberger highlights the seriousness of his actions and the consequences that come with embezzling public funds. It serves as a warning to others in positions of authority that they will be held accountable for their actions, and that the misappropriation of funds will not be tolerated. The case underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in public service, as well as the need for stringent oversight to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
